Part Selection Criteria

1. Size

1. Size

SPT excels at manufacturing micro-miniature parts with demanding finish and tolerance requirements. Currently our smallest inside diameter is 15µm [0.0006"] with a tip diameter of 35µm [0.0013"], resulting a wall thickness of 10µm [0.0004"]
2. Quantity

2. Quantity

If your component shows complexity in machining, quantities as low as 2,000 pieces may be economical, engineering for similar tooling may be done already. The upper end of annual quantities is almost limitless.
3. Tolerance

3. Tolerance

Tolerance performance can depend on component geometry, but a rule of thumb is that as-sintered tolerances of targeted dimension are ± 0.3% to ± 0.5% of nominal. However, with secondary grinding and polishing, tolerances < 5um [.0002"] are routinely held. Please consult with our technical staff for an analysis of your components.
4. Shape

4. Shape

Simple shapes may be more economically produced with traditional manufacturing techniques. In general, the more complexity, the more advantage CIM has over other methods. A flat sintering surface helps to minimize manufacturing cost and program development times. Please see our Application Examples for representative CIM components.
5. Molding Features

5. Molding Features

Items such as parting lines, ejector pin marks, gate vestige, draft angles should be taken into consideration. Our technical staff can help you minimize the impact of these features on your design.
