The CK style no-hole inline U-groove was the first step away from the concave foot, and primarily utilizes a cutting tool for second bond termination. The bond deformation width is smaller than that seen with a concave foot.

CKVD Style - No-Hole Inline V-Groove

The V-groove was a further refinement of the inline U-groove design. Even smaller bond deformation widths are seen with this design, and the transition from bond to wire is less damaged as compared to concave or inline U-groove designs. This V-groove design, typically at 70° angle, involves extra deep groove that has no contact with the top of the wire during bonding. This design has partial front and back radii around 30% of the wire diameter, with emphasis on the back radius to minimize wire scratching.

The LWD6 is similar to CKVD but with 60° V-groove angle. Likewise, this design has partial front and back radii, but larger around 50% of the wire diameter. Also with emphasis on the back radius to minimize wire scratching.

OSG7 Style - No-Hole Inline V-Groove

The OSG7 is similar to CKVD with 70° V-groove design. The success of this groove design is dependent on the advancement made in radius construction and utilizes a flared complex shape to achieve a smooth transition from bond to wire. The front and back radii have different proportion to the wire size. The emphasis on the back radius is larger, which is around twice of the front radius.
